5000Vrms isolation and 150Mbps — the design-fit decision
The ADI ADUM225N0BRIZ is a 2-channel, unidirectional digital isolator in the iCoupler family, built with magnetic coupling technology. The 150Mbps data rate keeps up with high-speed serial buses without adding latency, and the 75kV/µs common-mode transient immunity means it won't hiccup when a contactor slams open or a motor drive switches hard.
The 5000Vrms isolation voltage is the headline number for any safety-certified design — it meets reinforced isolation requirements per IEC 60747-5-5 for medical and industrial equipment, so you can use this part without an additional isolation transformer in the signal path. The 150Mbps data rate is fast enough for most SPI clocks up to 80 MHz and full-speed CAN FD; if your bus runs slower, the part still works with no minimum frequency restriction. The 75kV/µs CMTI is what keeps the output clean when a 600V DC bus switches — without it, you'd see false edges on the isolator output that corrupt data. The supply range from 1.7V to 5.5V means you can power the side 1 and side 2 independently at different voltages, so a 1.8V microcontroller on one side talks directly to a 5V sensor on the other without a level shifter. Propagation delay is 13ns max and pulse-width distortion is 3ns max — tight enough for most timing budgets at 150Mbps, but check your setup/hold margins if you're clocking near the limit.
Temperature range and deployment environment
The 8-SOIC-IC package with 7.50mm body width provides creepage distance for the 5000Vrms rating — standard SOIC-8 narrow body (3.9mm) wouldn't meet the clearance. Surface-mount assembly is straightforward; no isolated power supply is integrated, so you'll need separate power rails on each side of the isolation barrier.
