I2C bus isolator with 5000 Vrms reinforced isolation
The ADUM2251ARWZ-RL is an I2C digital isolator using magnetic coupling for 5000 Vrms isolation. It has two channels: one bidirectional for SDA and one unidirectional for SCL, supporting 1 Mbps.
Common-mode transient immunity and pulse-width distortion
With a minimum common-mode transient immunity of 25 kV/µs, the isolator can reject fast voltage transients across the barrier — important in motor-drive and inverter applications where switching noise couples into the bus. Pulse-width distortion is specified at 145 ns maximum on the bidirectional channel and 85 ns on the unidirectional channel, a parameter to budget for when calculating worst-case bus timing margins at 1 Mbps.
Package and footprint considerations
The 16-SOIC package lead spacing meets the creepage and clearance for 5000 Vrms isolation. Surface-mount assembly uses a standard reflow profile.
