What this isolator brings to the BOM
The ADUM141E1BRQZ-RL7 is a 4-channel digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built around magnetic coupling technology. It delivers 150 Mbps per channel with a propagation delay of 13 ns max and pulse-width distortion under 3 ns — tight enough for isolating SPI, RS-485, or CAN bus lines without re-clocking. The 3000 Vrms isolation rating covers reinforced insulation requirements for industrial motor drives, medical patient-contact interfaces, and solar inverter communication links.
75 kV/µs CMTI — why it matters for motor drives and inverters
Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 75 kV/µs minimum. In a motor-drive or UPS application where the IGBT switches 600 V in tens of nanoseconds, that transient couples across the isolation barrier. A part with lower CMTI can glitch the output, corrupting the gate-drive signal or the encoder feedback. This rating keeps the data path clean through the switching edge.
Channel configuration and package
Three channels on side 1, one on side 2 — all unidirectional. That maps directly to a 3+1 SPI isolation pattern (SCLK, MOSI, CS on the controller side, MISO on the peripheral side) or a 3-bit control bus plus one feedback line. The 16-QSOP package (3.90 mm width) is a space-saving footprint for multi-channel isolation on dense PCBs. Surface-mount only.
The wide supply range also helps in battery-powered gear where the rail droops under load.
Lifecycle and sourcing
No NRND or EOL flags — it's a current-production part suitable for new designs.
