Four-channel digital isolator with magnetic coupling
The Analog Devices ADUM1402ARWZ is a 4-channel, unidirectional digital isolator based on iCoupler magnetic coupling technology. The channel configuration is 2 inputs on side 1 and 2 inputs on side 2, making it suited for isolating two bidirectional signal pairs or a mix of control and data lines in industrial interfaces.
At 1 Mbps, this part handles standard SPI (up to 1 MHz clock), UART at 115200 baud with margin, and slow I²C (100 kHz). If your link needs 10 Mbps or faster (e.g., high-speed SPI for ADC reads), this is not the right isolator — look at the ADuM140x series with higher data rate options. The 100 ns max propagation delay (both directions) adds about one clock cycle of latency at 10 MHz, so budget that into your timing closure.
Isolation and transient immunity for motor-drive environments
Rated at 2500 Vrms isolation, this part meets basic insulation for 240 VAC mains interfaces in industrial equipment. More critical for motor-drive or inverter applications is the 25 kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity — that rating says the data link will not glitch when a nearby IGBT switches 600 V in 50 ns. Pair it with a clean local supply decoupling (100 nF ceramic at each supply pin) to keep the internal coupling coils from coupling supply noise into the data path.
Temperature grade and deployment context
No AEC-Q100 qualification is listed, so this part is not certified for automotive use under hood or in cabin. For automotive-grade isolation, look at the ADuM140xW variants with AEC-Q100 grade-1 rating.
