Automotive-rated iCoupler with 2500Vrms isolation
The ADUM1401WSRWZ-RL is an Analog Devices iCoupler digital isolator carrying an Automotive grade (AEC-Q100 qualified) and a General Purpose type designation. It provides 2500Vrms of galvanic isolation across four unidirectional channels in a 3/1 input-side-1/input-side-2 configuration, using magnetic coupling technology. Propagation delay is 100ns max (both tpLH and tpHL), and common-mode transient immunity is rated at 25kV/µs minimum.
The 2500Vrms isolation rating is the working voltage the part can withstand between input and output sides for 1 minute per the basic insulation test. In an automotive 12V/24V system with occasional load-dump transients, this provides a comfortable margin for protecting the low-voltage controller from the high-side or motor-drive side. The 25kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) means the isolator rejects fast voltage spikes — such as those from a switching MOSFET or an ignition coil — without corrupting the data on the output. For a CAN or SPI link crossing a noisy power boundary, this CMTI figure keeps the bus from seeing false edges.
Automotive temperature range and package fit
The wide-body 16-SOIC (7.50mm body width) provides 8 mm creepage distance between input and output pins, which is the standard for 2500Vrms reinforced isolation in a surface-mount package. The package is MSL-rated per the iCoupler family; check the MSL level on the reel label before reflow — if it's MSL 3, bake the parts if the moisture barrier bag has been open longer than the floor life.
