4-bit programmable buck controller for CPU core or chipset VRs
The Analog Devices ADP3161JR is a 4-bit programmable step-down (buck) PWM controller designed for high-current voltage regulation in desktop and notebook CPU core supplies, chipset VRs, and DDR memory rails. It integrates a two-phase, two-output architecture with synchronous rectification, enabling efficient conversion at switching frequencies up to 2 MHz. The 4-bit programming interface allows dynamic output voltage selection, typically controlled by the CPU's VID logic. The controller operates from a 5 V or 12 V supply and drives external N-channel MOSFETs.
Commercial temperature range — indoor equipment only
The ADP3161JR is specified for 0°C to 70°C ambient operation. This limits its use to controlled indoor environments such as desktop PCs, servers in climate-controlled data centers, test equipment, and office appliances. It is not suitable for automotive, industrial, or outdoor applications where the ambient temperature may drop below freezing or exceed 70°C. If you need a wider temperature range, the ADP1850 and ADP1829 are rated for -40°C to 85°C.
