Fixed 12 V rail from a wide input — what this part does
The ADP1173AR-12 is a micropower DC-DC converter from Analog Devices that handles step-up, step-down, and buck-boost regulation in a single 8-SOIC package. It delivers a fixed 12 V output from any input between 2 V and 30 V, making it a candidate for battery-powered equipment, industrial control boards, or anywhere a regulated 12 V rail is needed from an unregulated source.
Input range and output — the numbers that decide fit
The input voltage range spans 2 V to 30 V. The output is fixed at 12 V. The 1.5 A switch current is the peak the internal switch can handle.
Switching frequency and package
The 400 kHz switching frequency is a practical middle ground. The 8-SOIC package (3.90 mm width) is a standard surface-mount footprint. No synchronous rectifier here.
It belongs in office equipment, benchtop instruments, or indoor industrial panels — not under the hood or in a freezer. If the board lives in a conditioned space, the temp range is fine; for outdoor or engine-bay use, look at the industrial-temperature siblings in the ADP1111 family.
The part is RoHS non-compliant. We source this through independent distribution.
