Fixed 12V buck-boost, 19 kHz — what that means on the bench
The Analog Devices ADP1108AR-12 is a fixed 12V output step-up/step-down (buck-boost) DC-DC converter in an 8-SOIC package. It takes a 2V to 30V input rail and delivers a regulated positive 12V at its single output, switching at 19 kHz. That switching frequency is the first thing to flag: at 19 kHz it sits right in the audible band, so you will hear the inductor whine unless you pot the board or use a shielded inductor. The buck-boost topology means the output stays at 12V whether the input is above or below 12V — useful for battery-powered gear where the cell voltage drops below the target rail.
Sourcing and lifecycle — still active, but RoHS non-compliant
If your BOM requires full RoHS compliance for EU markets or green-label programs, this part will not pass. For military, aerospace, or industrial exempt applications where leaded solder is still allowed, it is fine.
