RF synthesizer ceiling and supply-rail flexibility
The ADF4118BRUZ-RL7 is a single-channel PLL frequency synthesizer targeting RF local-oscillator and carrier-generation loops up to 3 GHz. That 3 GHz max input frequency covers the 2.4 GHz ISM band, 2.1–2.7 GHz cellular bands, and 1.5–1.6 GHz GNSS receivers with headroom — the phase detector and loop filter determine the actual output frequency, not the input ceiling. No external regulator is needed unless the rail is noisy; a ferrite bead + 100 nF cap at the Vdd pin is the usual decoupling on the 16-TSSOP footprint.
The 16-TSSOP package is a 4.4 mm-wide body with 0.65 mm pin pitch — a standard two-layer board with a ground plane under the part handles the fan-out. The -RL7 suffix means tape-and-reel delivery, not cut tape or tray. If your pick-and-place line expects reeled parts, this is the correct ordering code; the sibling ADF4118BRUZ-RL is supplied on cut tape or Digi-Reel, which may require manual handling or a different feeder setup.
Active production — no obsolescence pressure on the BOM
Analog Devices continues to manufacture and support the 16-TSSOP package variant. For a production BOM line, this means no forced redesign cycle from a disappearing PLL — the part is available to order against your quantity. ROHS3 compliant, so it passes the current EU material-restriction requirements without an exemption. No separate lead-free qualification step needed at incoming inspection.
