550 MHz PLL synthesizer in a hand-solderable TSSOP
The ADF4116BRUZ is a single PLL clock/frequency synthesizer from Analog Devices, designed for RF local-oscillator generation up to 550 MHz. The 16-TSSOP package is hand-solderable with a fine tip and good flux, which matters for prototype runs or small-batch rework. It accepts CMOS or TTL reference inputs and outputs a single-ended clock. The 2:1 input-to-output ratio lets you select between two reference sources, handy for switching between a local oscillator and an external reference without an external mux.
Design-in checklist for the 16-TSSOP footprint
The 16-TSSOP body is 4.4 mm wide with a 0.65 mm lead pitch. A 2-layer board can route the signals, but a solid ground plane under the PLL is recommended to keep the charge-pump ripple and VCO pulling under control. The supply range lets you run the charge pump from the same rail as the loop filter op-amp, simplifying the power-distribution network. No external divider or multiplier is needed for the output — the internal divider is set via the serial interface. The single-circuit PLL means one synthesizer per package; if your design needs multiple independent LO frequencies, you'll need one ADF4116 per channel.
