What the 3 GHz ceiling means for your RF chain
The ADF4112BCPZ is a single-channel PLL frequency synthesizer with a 3 GHz maximum input frequency, making it a fit for local-oscillator synthesis in the 2.4 GHz ISM band, 2.6 GHz LTE, or 3.5 GHz fixed-wireless equipment — provided the VCO and loop filter are designed for the target channel spacing. The 2:1 input-to-output ratio and differential input option give flexibility for single-ended or differential reference sources.
Industrial temperature and package constraints
The 20-LFCSP (4x4 mm) with exposed pad requires a thermal via array under the paddle to keep the die temperature within the PLL charge-pump and phase-detector limits — the datasheet layout note is worth following. Compared to the ADF4113HVBCPZ, which extends to 4 GHz, the ADF4112BCPZ stops at 3 GHz — a meaningful difference if the target band is 3.5 GHz or higher. For a 6 GHz ceiling, the ADF4106BCPZ is the next step up.
