PLL frequency synthesizer for RF local oscillators
The ADF4110BRUZ-RL7 is a PLL-based clock/frequency synthesizer from Analog Devices designed for RF applications — think local oscillator generation in a radio receiver or transmitter upconverter. Its 550 MHz maximum frequency sets the ceiling for the VCO output it can lock; if your target carrier is above that, you need the ADF4111BRUZ-RL7 which goes to 1.4 GHz. Supply voltage spans 2.7V to 5.5V, so it runs off a 3.3V or 5V rail without a separate LDO — one less part on the BOM. The 2:1 input-to-output ratio means you feed it a reference and a feedback signal; it drives the charge pump to steer the external VCO.
16-TSSOP footprint and layout considerations
Housed in a 16-TSSOP package, the package is small enough for dense RF boards but leaves room for the loop filter components nearby.
