JFET op-amp in a hermetic can — what the ratings mean
The AD547LH is a single-channel JFET-input operational amplifier from Analog Devices, packaged in a TO-99-8 metal can for through-hole mounting. Its 3 V/µs slew rate and 50 kHz -3 dB bandwidth suit it for precision analog signal conditioning — think photodiode amplifiers, precision integrators, and low-frequency active filters where the JFET input's 10 pA bias current preserves signal integrity from high-impedance sources. Supply span runs from 10 V to 36 V, covering both single-rail 12 V/24 V industrial supplies and split ±5 V to ±18 V rails. The 250 µV input offset voltage is typical for a general-purpose precision JFET stage — adequate for 8- to 10-bit accuracy paths without external trimming.
Note that this variant is RoHS non-compliant — factor that into any EU or RoHS-exempt-equipment BOM review.
TO-99-8 metal can — legacy socket fit
The TO-99-8 package is a hermetic, 8-lead circular metal can with a 0.230-inch diameter base. It mates with standard 8-pin round sockets or can be soldered directly into plated through-holes. The metal enclosure provides inherent RFI shielding and better thermal conduction than plastic DIP or SOIC packages, which is why this form factor persists in high-reliability and retrofit applications.
