72 MHz Cortex-M0+ — throughput for control and data acquisition
The NXP MKL28Z512VLL7R is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ MCU from the Kinetis KL2 series, clocked at 72 MHz with 512 KB Flash and 128 KB RAM. That core speed, combined with the single-cycle multiply and tightly coupled DMA, handles real-time control loops — motor commutation, sensor fusion, or USB packet processing — without stalling on memory access. The 90 GPIOs in the 100-LQFP package give enough headroom for parallel LCD interfaces or multiple UART/SPI buses.
Analog and connectivity peripherals
The 27-channel 16-bit SAR ADC covers multi-sensor acquisition — thermocouples, pressure transducers, current shunts — with enough channels to avoid external muxing. A single 12-bit DAC provides analog output for set-point control or waveform generation. USB with FlexIO enables custom serial protocols (UART, SPI, I2C emulation) and high-speed data transfer without an external PHY in many cases.
