528 MHz Cortex-M7 — real-time throughput without an MMU
The NXP MIMXRT1051CVL5A is a crossover MCU from the RT1050 series, built around an ARM Cortex-M7 core running at 528 MHz. It targets applications that need the responsiveness of a microcontroller with the performance headroom typically associated with an application processor — think motor-drive control loops, industrial Ethernet gateways, and high-speed data acquisition front-ends. The 512K x 8 SRAM is on-chip, so no external memory is required for many real-time control tasks, though program memory is external (QSPI Flash or SDRAM via the EBI/EMI interface).
Connectivity and I/O — single-chip industrial node
The MIMXRT1051CVL5A brings CANbus, Ethernet, USB OTG, multiple SPI and I²C interfaces, plus SAI and SPDIF for audio. With 127 I/O lines and a 20-channel 12-bit ADC, it can handle a mixed-signal control board — reading current-sense resistors, driving PWM outputs, and talking to a fieldbus gateway — without glue logic.
The 3V to 3.6V supply range aligns with standard 3.3V logic rails.
