ROMless architecture — plan for external flash
The LPC54S018JBD208E is ROMless and boots from an external SPI flash (SPIFI) interface. The SPIFI controller runs at up to 180 MHz.
180 MHz Cortex-M4 — throughput for protocol-heavy designs
The ARM Cortex-M4 core runs at 180 MHz with a single-cycle multiply and hardware divide, plus a floating-point unit for real-time control loops. That clock rate is enough to handle an Ethernet TCP/IP stack, a CANopen node, and a USB host stack simultaneously without a dedicated communications co-processor. The 360 KB of on-chip SRAM (organized as 360K x 8) provides ample buffer space for packet queues and data logging.
Connectivity and I/O — industrial gateway ready
The 171 GPIOs in the 208-LQFP package leave plenty of headroom for driving a local TFT display, keypad matrix, and sensor array without an external port expander.
