Frequently asked questions
What does ROMless mean for BOM planning — do I need to add flash separately?
Yes. The LPC54S016JET180E has no internal program memory; it boots from external flash over SPIFI, QSPI, or parallel EBI. This adds a separate memory component to the BOM that must be sized for the firmware footprint and qualified for its own lifecycle. The MCU itself is not the ROM sourcing risk — the external flash vendor is.
Can I run this MCU on a 3.3V panel rail, or do I need a dedicated LDO?
The 1.71V minimum supply means it fits directly on a 3.3V nominal rail without a second LDO — but a switching supply with significant transient sag below 1.71V will trigger brown-out reset. Decoupling and supply rail quality at -40°C cold-start need attention in the schematic review before committing the 3.3V rail assumption.
