What the AEC-Q200 rating means for the BOM
The DFEH10040D-2R2M=P3: For a tier-one ECU program, this inductor is PPAP-ready without a separate qualification run. The -40°C to +155°C operating range covers the under-hood ambient profile with margin for self-heating. At 12 A continuous, the 7.5 mOhm max DCR produces about 1.1 W of I²R loss — the 155°C ceiling absorbs that rise without derating the current rating.
Current rating vs saturation — which one governs the design
The continuous current rating is 12 A, but the saturation current (Isat) is 14 A. In a buck converter output stage, the inductor sees a DC bias plus ripple current; the inductance drop at the peak of the ripple must stay within the system's ripple-current budget. The 14 A Isat means the inductance holds its value up to roughly 14 A, so a 12 A DC load with 2 A ripple stays below the knee. The iron powder core material gives a soft saturation characteristic — inductance rolls off gradually rather than collapsing abruptly. This is useful in automotive transient conditions where the load current spikes above the DC rating for tens of milliseconds.
Last-buy status — what it means for procurement
Murata has marked the DFEH10040D-2R2M=P3 as Last Buy. This is the final ordering window before the part becomes obsolete.
