What the 1500W rating means for your protection design
The 1.5KE160CA-TP is a 1500W peak-pulse-power Zener TVS diode in the standard DO-201AE axial-lead package. For shorter transients (e.g. 8/20 µs) the peak current capability is higher, but the 1500W figure is the one used for IEC 61000-4-5 surge coordination at the board level. The reverse standoff voltage is 136V, meaning the diode draws negligible leakage below that rail. Clamping starts at 152V (breakdown minimum) and hard-limits transients to 219V at the rated 6.9A pulse current. For a 48V telecom bus or a 120V DC rail, this part holds the transient below the downstream component's abs-max rating.
This covers cold-crank and hot-soak conditions without derating the pulse power below the 1500W headline figure. The DO-201AE axial package is through-hole mounted, which simplifies rework and inspection compared to surface-mount TVS arrays.
The base product number 1.5KE160 covers both unidirectional and bidirectional variants in the same DO-201AE package. For a BOM that already qualifies the 1.5KE160 footprint, the CA suffix (bidirectional) is a drop-in replacement for the unidirectional version if the circuit requires symmetrical clamping.
