What the 200 mOhm ESR means for your rail
The TPSE476M020R0200: For a buck converter output filtering 2 A ripple, two of these in parallel halve the ESR to 100 mOhm and double the ripple headroom. At 47 µF and 20 V rated, the voltage derating rule for MnO2 tantalum is 50 % — on a 20 V rail the capacitor sees 10 V DC bias, which keeps the failure rate in the FIT range for telecom equipment. Running it at 12 V or below extends the wear-out margin further.
Case, temp grade, and board-fit
Molded case means the epoxy encapsulates the tantalum anode and MnO2 cathode — no seam, no electrolyte leakage path, and the part survives the 260 °C peak reflow profile without popcorning. The 2917 footprint is the standard D-size tantalum land pattern; the 4.30 mm seated height fits under most SODIMM sockets and mezzanine connectors. The -55 to 125 °C range covers the full military temperature band — the capacitance shift from -55 °C to +125 °C is typically -10 % to +15 % for the X5R-equivalent dielectric formulation AVX uses in the TPS series. No derating needed above 85 °C as long as the applied voltage stays below 13.3 V (2/3 of rated).
