D-case 2917 footprint and ESR budget
The TPSD336M025R0300: The 300 mOhm ESR is the key thermal parameter — it sets the ripple current capability and self-heating under load. For a 33 µF part at 25 V, this ESR is typical for the TPS series and allows the capacitor to handle moderate ripple without exceeding the 125°C maximum operating temperature. The ±20% tolerance is standard for tantalum electrolytics and means the actual capacitance at 25 V bias could range from 26.4 µF to 39.6 µF.
The molded construction and tape-and-reel packaging (Cut Tape also available) suit automated pick-and-place assembly without special handling beyond standard tantalum moisture sensitivity.
Temperature range and derating practice
The -55°C to 125°C operating range covers the full industrial temperature envelope and reaches into the lower automotive ambient band. Tantalum capacitors require voltage derating at elevated temperatures — at 125°C, a 50% derating to 12.5 V applied is a conservative starting point to avoid surge failures. The 300 mOhm ESR remains stable across most of the temperature range, rising at cold temperatures where the electrolyte conductivity drops.
