ESR and ripple current — the 300 mOhm floor
For a 22 µF output capacitor on a 1 MHz buck converter, this ESR contributes roughly 30 mVP-P of ripple at 100 mARMS — the dominant term in the output voltage ripple equation. Lower ESR (200 mOhm sibling) cuts ripple by a third but costs more per unit.
Temperature range — military-grade deployment
In an avionics power rail that sees -40°C cold-soak and +105°C internal ambient, the capacitance stays within the ±10% tolerance band without voltage derating below 25 V. The molded case and D-size (7.30mm x 4.30mm) footprint suit reflow assembly on standard FR-4.
The TPS series is a mature molded tantalum line with broad distributor coverage; sourcing through independent channels is straightforward for both prototype reels and production quantities.
