What the 60 mOhm ESR means for your bypass bank
The TPSD107M016S0060: At 100 µF and 60 mOhm ESR, this molded tantalum from the TPS series delivers a self-resonant frequency around 1 MHz—where the impedance curve bottoms out. Below that, the capacitor behaves as a low-impedance bypass; above, the ESL takes over. For a 16 V rail feeding a 3 A load, the 60 mOhm ESR translates to about 180 mV of ripple at the switching frequency if the current ripple is 3 A p-p, so the thermal ripple current rating of the cap should be checked against the actual load. The molded construction gives good mechanical stability on the board, though the reflow profile must stay within the tantalum anode's limit (typically 260 °C peak, 30 seconds above 217 °C).
Rated -55°C to 125°C, this cap covers the full industrial and military temperature band. The 125 °C upper limit means it can sit next to a hot MOSFET or regulator without derating—though the ESR climbs at low temperature and the leakage current rises at high temperature. The ±20% tolerance is typical for tantalum electrolytics—the actual capacitance at 0 V bias can be 20% high, and it drops with DC bias voltage, so the 100 µF nominal may be 80 µF at 10 V applied.
