Molded tantalum fit — ESR and footprint
The TPSC685K025R0600: This is a KYOCERA AVX TPS series molded tantalum capacitor, 6.8 µF at 25 V with ±10% tolerance. The 600 mOhm ESR is the key derating parameter — it limits the ripple current the part can handle before self-heating shifts the capacitance and accelerates wear-out. On a 12 V rail with 100 mV ripple, the RMS current stays under 200 mA, which keeps the core temperature rise within the 125 °C ceiling. The 2312 (6032 Metric) case (6.00 mm x 3.20 mm, seated height 2.80 mm) is a standard molded tantalum footprint. Most PCB layout libraries include this pad geometry; no via-in-pad or special fan-out required. The size code C body matches the industry-standard 6032-28 footprint.
The molded case and general-purpose rating mean no special surge or low-ESR screening; derate voltage by 50% above 85 °C per typical tantalum practice.
No official second source or direct replacement is published — the TPS series covers the same case and voltage range, but the 600 mOhm ESR variant is specific to this order code.
