Molded tantalum for bulk decoupling and filtering
The TPSC155M050R1500 is a molded tantalum capacitor from the TPS series, rated 1.5 µF at 50 V with a 1.5 Ohm ESR. The 50 V ceiling gives headroom on a 24 V or 48 V rail — the derating rule for tantalum (typically 50% of rated voltage) still leaves 25 V safe operating, which covers most industrial and telecom bus voltages. The 1.5 Ohm ESR limits the ripple current the part can handle without self-heating; for a 100 kHz switching regulator output, the ripple current rating is roughly 0.5 A RMS before the internal temperature rise exceeds the datasheet limit.
The capacitance tolerance of ±20% is standard for tantalum electrolytics — expect the actual value to drift with temperature and DC bias within that window.
