ESR and thermal endurance — the two numbers that matter
The TPSB225K025R1200: The 1.2 Ohm ESR at 100 kHz sets the conduction loss floor for this 2.2 µF tantalum. In a buck-converter output filter, that ESR translates directly into ripple voltage — a 100 mA pk-pk ripple current through 1.2 Ohm produces 120 mV pk-pk output ripple, which may push past the load's ripple spec if the inductor ripple current is not accounted for. If the ambient temperature stays below 85°C, the lifetime multiplier from the TPS series data extends well beyond 2000 hours — but at the full 125°C rating, that 2000-hour window is the design-life boundary for continuous operation.
Molded 1411 (3528 Metric) case, size code B, measures 3.50 mm x 2.80 mm with a seated height of 2.10 mm. Surface-mount reflow profile follows standard tantalum recommendations — peak temperature 260°C, three passes max.
The TPS series is a standard molded tantalum line; no single-source risk.
