Molded tantalum chip, 0.47 µF at 20 V
The 0.47 µF capacitance at a 20 V rating covers decoupling and filtering on a 12 V or 15 V rail with margin for transients. The 0805 case (2.05 mm × 1.30 mm footprint) is a common size for space-constrained boards; the seated height of 1.20 mm fits under low-profile shields or mezzanine cards.
25 Ohm ESR — derate for ripple current
The 25 Ohm ESR is high for a tantalum at this capacitance. It limits the ripple current the capacitor can handle before self-heating becomes an issue — for a 20 V rail, the AC current through the cap will push the temperature rise above the 125°C ceiling if not derated.
Active production — no end-of-life watch
The TAJ series is a broad, mature line; KYOCERA AVX continues to manufacture these without a planned phase-out.
Full military temperature band
This suits avionics power bus decoupling, downhole instrumentation, or satellite payload filtering where the ambient swings across the entire band. The molded construction provides better mechanical stability than conformal-coated chips under thermal cycling.
