2.2 µF at 20 V – what the ratings tell you
The TAJR225M020RNJ: The 2.2 µF capacitance at 20 V rated voltage is a common decoupling value for 3.3 V and 5 V rails, but the 20 V rating provides headroom for 12 V bus filtering or automotive 24 V nominal systems where transients can hit 35 V. The 6 Ω ESR (equivalent series resistance) sets the ripple current ceiling — at 100 kHz, a 100 mA ripple current dissipates 60 mW, which is manageable in the 0805 body, but pushing toward 200 mA ripple will raise the internal temperature noticeably.
The molded 0805 case (2.05 mm x 1.30 mm footprint, 1.50 mm seated height) is a standard reflow-friendly package — no special handling beyond typical MSL precautions for tantalum.
