Capacitance and voltage derating for rail decoupling
The TAJA106K016RNJV delivers 10 µF at 16 V rated voltage in a molded 1206 case — a common bulk decoupling value for 3.3 V and 5 V rails. Applying the standard 50 % derating guideline for tantalum capacitors keeps the safe working voltage at 8 V, which leaves margin for ripple and transients on a 5 V supply.
ESR and ripple current — what the 3 Ohm spec means for the BOM
ESR is 3 Ohm at 100 kHz — this is the AC resistance that generates self-heating under ripple current. If the load draws higher ripple, a lower-ESR tantalum or a ceramic parallel cap is needed to stay within the thermal budget.
The molded case and surface-mount 1206 footprint simplify rework and conformal coating inspection.
