1 µF / 35 V — bulk decoupling on a 24 V rail
The TAJA105M035SNJ: This 1 µF tantalum at 35 V gives 40 % derating from the 24 V rail — enough margin to survive transients without an external clamp. Operating from -55 to 125 °C with 2000 hours endurance at the top temperature, the part suits engine-bay or industrial enclosure environments where the ambient cycles above 85 °C.
ESR and ripple — the practical ceiling
At 7.5 Ohm ESR, the self-heating from ripple current is the limiting factor. For a 100 kHz ripple with 50 mA RMS, the internal temperature rise is roughly I² × R = 0.05² × 7.5 = 19 mW, negligible. Push that to 200 mA RMS and the rise hits 0.3 W — enough to shorten the 125 °C lifetime if the ambient is already hot. Derate the ripple current per the datasheet curve.
