Molded tantalum, 1 µF at 16 V — the derating envelope
On a 5 V rail the 16 V rating provides 3.2× derating, well above the 2× rule of thumb; on a 12 V rail the margin shrinks to 1.33×, which demands a careful check of surge and ripple voltage in the application. The 11 Ohm ESR at 100 kHz sets the ripple current ceiling — for a 100 kHz switching regulator output, the self-heating from ripple current through this ESR must be budgeted against the 2000-hour lifetime at 125 °C. A higher-ESR part like this is better suited to bulk decoupling or timing circuits than to high-ripple power rails.
Temperature grade and board fit
The molded construction provides mechanical robustness and moisture resistance suitable for conformal-coated assemblies.
