Peak pulse and clamping selection
The 1.5SMCJ60C is a unidirectional TVS diode specified for a 60 V reverse standoff voltage — the circuit sees no impedance up to that level, and the part remains off. The 107 V clamping ceiling is the figure that determines whether downstream circuitry survives the strike. A faster rise-time event (8/20 µs) delivers more current at the same peak voltage because the energy dumps in less time, so the same 1.5 kW rating at 10/1000 µs does not directly translate to a 1.5 kW rating at 8/20 µs; derate per the datasheet power-derating curve if the threat spectrum differs.
Operating temperature and junction ceiling
Junction temperature range is -50°C to 150°C (TJ). The 150°C upper limit is the design ceiling — above that, the clamping voltage specification is no longer guaranteed and the part moves toward thermal runaway. In a naturally-convected enclosure with limited thermal relief, the steady-state junction rise above ambient must stay within the 150°C TJ budget to maintain the clamping characteristic across the full operating temperature band.
Package and second-source footprint
The SMC/DO-214AB package is the industry-standard outline for 1500 W TVS diodes — the land pattern is pin-compatible across suppliers. The base product number is SMCJ60, which maps to the 60 V standoff voltage tier across the series. Ordering the full order code pins the Diotec part specifically; a second-source TVS in the same SMCJ60 voltage class may be a drop-in fit at the board level, but the datasheet should be compared for leakage current and capacitance at the working voltage before substitution.
