What the 1.5SMCJ60A does
The 1.5SMCJ60A is a unidirectional Zener-type TVS diode in the DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package — the classic unipolar transient suppressor for board-level protection on dc rails. Rated 60V reverse standoff, it sits normally off the signal line and clamps to 96.8V when a surge pulls the line above the 66.7V breakdown threshold, absorbing 1.5kW peak pulse and letting the downstream circuitry see a bounded overvoltage rather than the full spike. Peak pulse current is 15.5A at the 10/1000 µs wave shape — this is the 1.5kW rating resolved to a real surge event. The clamping voltage at that current level is the spec the downstream protection designer needs: the TVS does not clip at the standoff voltage, it holds off at 60V until the transient crosses into breakdown and then clamps at 96.8V, protecting the load.
Junction temperature and SMT fit
Junction temperature range is -50°C to 150°C — wide enough for automotive under-hood deployments and industrial enclosures that see cold starts and elevated ambient during operation. The DO-214AB SMC package mounts surface-mount; the supplier device package designation SMC/DO-214AB reflects the industry-standard footprint used across multiple TVS families, so pad layout follows the common land pattern without needing a custom footprint.
