Unidirectional TVS protection — what the voltage chain means
The 1.5SMCJ15CA clamps overvoltage transients away from sensitive downstream circuits. At 15 V typical reverse standoff voltage, the TVS sits off-state during normal operation and begins conducting only when the transient pushes it past the minimum breakdown threshold of 16.7 V. The clamping chain — standoff / breakdown / clamping — is the selection axis that tells you whether the downstream load survives the event without damage. The tighter that ratio, the less voltage overshoot reaches the protected load during a surge event. This rating is what most engineers use for surge withstand calculations against IEC 61000-4-5. The operating junction temperature spans -50°C to 150°C, covering the full industrial envelope and most outdoor or poorly ventilated enclosure deployments. The general-purpose applications listing reflects a broad fit — 15 V rails, signal lines, and control buses where a transient suppressor is the first line of defence.
