It clamps transient overvoltage to protect downstream circuits on sensitive rails that see bidirectional ESD or surge stress.
Reverse standoff is 10 V typ — the TVS appears as a high-impedance off-state up to that level, drawing only leakage current. Once the line swings above standoff, the Zener breakdown kicks in. For a 5 V rail with ±10% tolerance, 17 V clamping gives enough headroom before the protected IC sees damage — the 1.5 kW rating handles the 10/1000 µs surge energy without degradation. Junction temperature range is -50°C to 150°C (TJ), which covers industrial environments and enclosed equipment bays — the upper limit is set by the die attach and Zener operating point, not the package epoxy. Surface-mount SMC landing pattern mates with standard pick-and-place tooling.
