Unidirectional TVS — standoff, breakdown, and clamping
The 1.5SMCJ100A is a unidirectional Zener-type TVS diode in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, rated for 100 V reverse standoff — the maximum DC operating voltage the line can sit at without the TVS conducting. When a transient exceeds the 111 V minimum breakdown threshold, the device clamps the voltage to 162 V maximum, protecting downstream circuits from surge energy.
Surface-mount thermal and handling
The SMC package mounts flat to the PCB with a solderable tab; the operating temperature junction limit is 150 °C, which constrains how much surge energy the device can absorb in a given thermal cycle. Strip packaging means the part ships non-reeled — confirm the assembly line's feeder setup before committing to volume.
What this part is NOT
The 1.5SMCJ100A is unidirectional only — it protects positive-polarity transients on a DC rail. It does not clamp negative spikes and is not a bidirectional TVS. If the circuit sees bipolar or AC swing, a different polarity variant is required. It is also listed without power-line protection certification, so confirm the IEC 61000-4-5 class requirement for the target end equipment before specifying.
