Obsolete — last-time-buy sourcing for the BOM line
The SMCJ5.0CA-13: No official successor is listed by the manufacturer. A functional replacement would require a board-level review of the DO-214AB footprint and the 1500W peak pulse rating.
1500W peak pulse — what the rating means for the circuit
The 163A peak pulse current (Ipp) at the same waveform tells you the diode can shunt a substantial fault current before the clamping voltage rises to 9.2V max. The 5V reverse standoff voltage (Vrwm) means it starts conducting above 5V, with a minimum breakdown of 6.4V. This suits 5V logic or low-voltage power buses where the normal operating rail stays under 5V and the TVS only activates during a transient. The Zener-type construction gives a sharp breakdown knee.
Package and temperature range for the board
Housed in DO-214AB (SMC) — a surface-mount package with a large copper tab for heat sinking during the pulse. Supplied on Tape & Reel or Cut Tape — the reel format suits automated pick-and-place for high-volume assembly. No power line protection (not designed for AC mains), so keep it on DC rails or signal lines.
