1500 W Zener TVS in a DO-214AB SMC body
The SMCJ5.0A-13: It delivers 1500 W peak pulse power across a standard 10/1000 µs waveform — enough to absorb a nearby lightning-induced surge or an inductive load dump without the part failing short. The reverse standoff voltage is 5 V, meaning the part stays high-impedance on a nominal 5 V supply line. Clamping starts at a minimum breakdown of 6.4 V, and at the full 163 A peak pulse current the clamp voltage holds at 9.2 V max — the downstream silicon sees no more than that.
DO-214AB SMC package and rework
The DO-214AB SMC body is a standard surface-mount footprint with a large copper pad on the cathode side. Solder profile follows standard SnAgCu reflow; the SMC body handles the peak 260 °C without delamination — no special bake required if the reel stays sealed. The 150 °C TJ limit is the absolute ceiling for the silicon die; at sustained high ambient the peak pulse power must be derated per the datasheet curve.
