For a 13V rail, a 69.7A pulse lasting 1ms is the worst-case it handles before the junction temperature exceeds the 150°C TJ limit. In practice, real-world transients are shorter (8/20µs is common for ESD), so the margin is generous. The bidirectional construction means one device protects against both positive and negative surges — useful on signal lines or DC buses where polarity reversal is possible. The DO-214AB (SMC) package is the larger of the common TVS footprints, offering lower thermal resistance than the smaller SMA/SMB variants.
