Product details

1500W Zener TVS for 100V rails

The SMCJ100A-13: Its 162V maximum clamping voltage at 9.3A peak pulse current (10/1000µs waveform) means a downstream 160V-rated capacitor or IC sees voltage held below its abs-max during a surge event. Housed in the standard DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, it fits reflow assembly lines alongside other SMC-footprint passives.

Clamping voltage and surge current fit

The 100V reverse standoff voltage (working voltage) is the rail the TVS protects — it draws negligible leakage below this threshold. Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 111V, and the clamp engages at 162V max under the 9.3A peak pulse current. For a 100V bus with a 10% tolerance (110V max), the 111V breakdown provides margin before the TVS starts conducting during normal operation. Rated 1500W for the 10/1000µs exponential waveform — the industry-standard surge shape for AC power-line transients and lightning-induced surges per IEC 61000-4-5. The same device derates for shorter pulses; a 8/20µs waveform typical of ESD events allows higher peak current before reaching the thermal limit.

No pin-compatible second-source or successor is listed in the official record. The SMCJ series shares the same DO-214AB footprint across voltage variants, so a BOM swap to a different standoff voltage (e.g., SMCJ90A for a 90V rail) requires verifying the rail voltage and clamp margin.
