Surge rating and voltage thresholds
The SMBJ8.0A-13: At the full 44.1A peak pulse current (IPP), the clamping voltage is held to 13.6V maximum. That 13.6V ceiling is what the downstream IC sees across its supply or signal pins during a surge event — a 5V logic rail with a 7V abs-max rating is safe here, but a 3.3V rail with a 4V abs-max would need a lower-voltage TVS.
Package, temperature, and deployment
Housed in the DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package, the SMBJ8.0A-13 mates with the standard SMB footprint — the same pad layout used across the SMBJ family, so a BOM swap between voltage variants requires no board spin. Supplied on Tape & Reel, it feeds directly into pick-and-place for volume assembly. On a 24V PLC input or a 5V sensor line it is appropriate; on a 48V power bus it would exceed the VRWM rating and conduct continuously.
