Bidirectional TVS for 48V rails
The SMBJ54CA-13: Its 54 V reverse standoff voltage sits just above the steady-state bus, so it stays out of conduction during normal operation but triggers before the downstream silicon sees damage. That clamping ceiling is the number to check against the absolute-maximum rating of the protected IC — if the IC's breakdown is below 87 V, this TVS may not catch the spike fast enough.
No power line protection feature is built in — this is a pure transient suppressor, not a filter.
Active production — sourcing posture
The base product number SMBJ54 identifies the voltage family — the -13 suffix denotes the tape-and-reel packaging variant.
