The SMBJ51CA-13: The 51 V reverse standoff voltage means the device starts conducting only when the line voltage exceeds 51 V — below that threshold it sits as a high-impedance shunt, drawing negligible leakage. The minimum breakdown voltage of 56.7 V and maximum clamping of 82.4 V at 7.3 A peak pulse current define the protection window: the TVS clamps a transient before it reaches the downstream silicon rating.
Housed in the DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package, the device occupies a standard footprint for 600 W TVS diodes. The single bidirectional channel protects one signal or power rail in both polarities — useful for AC lines or DC lines where reverse polarity is possible.
