Voltage ratings and clamping behaviour
The SMBJ36A-13: With a 36 V reverse standoff voltage, the device remains non-conductive under normal operating conditions up to that rail; breakdown occurs at a minimum of 40 V, ensuring the TVS activates before the protected circuitry sees excessive voltage. The 58.1 V clamping voltage defines the peak voltage the load sees during a surge event — a critical figure for selecting downstream components with adequate voltage ratings.
