Breakdown and clamping window
The SMBJ17A-13: The minimum breakdown voltage is 18.9V, so the diode starts conducting just above the 17V standoff level. The clamping ceiling at 27.6V leaves a 10.6V margin between the rail and the clamp — comfortable for a 30V-abs-max downstream regulator, but tight for a 24V-rated part. The 21.7A peak pulse current is the current the diode shunts at that clamp voltage; a lower-impedance surge source will push more current, and the 600W limit sets the safe operating area.
Housed in the DO-214AA (SMB) package, the SMBJ17A-13 is a surface-mount part with a standard footprint that mates with the common SMB pad layout. Power line protection is not supported (no internal filter), so this diode is for signal or DC rail clamping, not AC mains.
