The SMBJ16CA-13: The 16 V reverse standoff voltage and 17.8 V minimum breakdown voltage define the protection threshold — the diode remains transparent below 16 V and begins conducting above 17.8 V to clamp the line.
Package and board integration
The DO-214AA (SMB) package is a standard JEDEC outline for TVS diodes, with a solderable cathode tab that doubles as the thermal path — the PCB copper pad area under the tab directly sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance.
