400W Zener TVS for 7V rail protection
The SMAJ7.0A-13: With a peak pulse power rating of 400W (10/1000µs waveform) and a clamping voltage of 12V at 33.3A peak pulse current, it protects downstream circuitry from overvoltage events such as ESD, inductive load switching, and coupled surges. The reverse standoff voltage of 7V means the diode does not conduct at normal operating levels up to that point; above it, breakdown begins at a minimum of 7.78V. This gives a narrow guard band for a 5V or 3.3V rail but is sized for a 7V bus where the operating margin is tight.
Package and temperature envelope
Housed in the industry-standard DO-214AC (SMA) package, the SMAJ7.0A-13 is a surface-mount device suited for automated pick-and-place assembly. The SMA footprint is common across many TVS families, so the PCB layout is interchangeable with other SMA-packaged parts from the same class. The operating junction temperature range spans -55°C to 150°C, covering industrial and some automotive under-hood environments. The wide temperature window means the clamping voltage and leakage current remain within datasheet limits across the full range, not just at 25°C.
