Clamping voltage and surge rating for a 145V rail
The P6KE170A-T: Its 234V maximum clamping voltage at a peak pulse current of 2.6A (10/1000µs waveform) limits the energy a downstream MOSFET, IC, or DC-DC converter sees during a surge event — the clamp voltage is the ceiling the protected device must survive. The 162V minimum breakdown voltage gives a 17V margin above the 145V standoff, so the diode stays transparent under normal line ripple and only conducts when a transient pushes the rail above that threshold.
