Specification differences for MJH6284G / MJH6287G, TIP142 / TIP147
Parameter
Supply voltageSame class; verify the exact grade against the schematic.-
Memory & PeripheralsWhere backorder lists push a repair toward "any big TO-247 transistor", this pair is the one that keeps the Darlington drive contract - the non-Darlington alternatives do not.-
CaseTO-247TO-247 (formerly TO-218)
Compatibility Level100% Drop-in (Zero Code Change)-
Component Category-Darlington Power Transistors
Core & ArchitectureThe onsemi Darlingtons that carry the same function in current production: TO-247 complementary pair with the gain contract intact - the practical supply when TIP142 allocation is thin.-
Firmware NotesThe substitution rule in one line: same body, same drive expectations, same polarity pairing (6284 NPN with 6287 PNP) - fit them as the pair the circuit was drawn around.-
Hardware NotesTO-247 land shared with the TIP14x row.-

Market Reality-The TIP142 NPN and TIP147 PNP are the 10A complementary Darlingtons of audio output stages, solenoid and relay drivers, and the lamp and motor outputs of industrial gear: 100V, 10A, 125W in the TO-247 body, with a current gain of 1000 that turns a milliampere of base current into amperes at the load. That gain is the entire design contract - circuits built around it deliver almost no drive, which is why the classic repair failure happens when a well-meaning substitution fits a genuine, expensive, "better" power transistor with gain 100 and the output stage quietly starves. Since the old TO-218 body was discontinued in 2012, TO-247 is the only current home, including the onsemi MJH6284/MJH6287 pair.
