Clamping voltage and transient suppression ceiling
The 1.5SMC75A BK PBFREE: At 103 V maximum clamping voltage into the 14.6 A peak pulse, this unidirectional TVS diode clamps transients at 103 V regardless of how much the surge current tries to push the clamped voltage higher — the clamping ceiling is the figure that protects the downstream load. The 64.1 V reverse standoff sets the working rail below which the TVS stays off and leaks only microamps; anything above it begins to avalanche.
Standoff, breakdown, and the protection window
The 64.1 V reverse standoff is the continuous working voltage — the TVS sits in parallel with the rail and draws only leakage current while the line stays below this threshold. When a surge exceeds the 71.3 V minimum breakdown, the Zener avalanche kicks in and the device transitions from high-impedance off to low-impedance clamping. The gap between 64.1 V and 71.3 V is the design margin — the wider it is, the more headroom the protected circuit has before the TVS fires on normal transients.
Operating temperature and DO-214AB SMC package
The DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package is the mid-size TVS package — larger than SMB, smaller than SMD — which means a reasonable die attach area and thermal path without the board footprint of a full 600 W part. Pb-free finish supports RoHS assembly flow.
